Bell to Keynote at Rural Community Conferences

Responding to the Exaflood
There is little disagreement that Internet traffic is approaching what Brett Swanson and George Gilder have called an Exaflood of data...Said Intelligent Community Forum co-founder Robert Bell last month: “Issues of the Exaflood have not yet made it onto the radar screen of most people and organizations who are users of broadband rather than carriers of broadband or major providers of content over broadband.… It is natural that the first parties concerned would be the network scientists and engineers who have to keep the Net running.”
 
Building Your Own Intelligent Community: A Tale of Two Cities
When the mayor of Waterloo, Ontario, Barbara Halloran, traveled to Japan and met Mitaka, Japan's Mayor Keiko Kiyohara last year, they embraced, greeted each other warmly and began a long discussion that started with a mutual "congratulations Madame Mayor." This was not simply a meeting of two small city mayors looking to find areas of mutual interest or establish "sister city" relations. Her Worship Halloran and Madame Mayor Kiyohara were the leaders of communities that had each been named the world's most Intelligent Community of the year.
 
Making Connections
Toronto was the final stop on a five-city tour for more than a dozen international delegates involved in the Intelligent Community Forum’s program called, Immersion Lab North America 2008. The tour, which started in Philadelphia May 12, went to New York, Cleveland and Waterloo, and immersed the participants in four North American cities that have made the broadband economy work for them. The tour ended in Toronto yesterday with a presentation of the iWaterfront plans.
